Born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Rodney Huckaby developed an interest in drawing from the first day he was able to hold a pencil.  He combined his early love for art with an appreciation of the outdoors which was instilled by his father, an avid hunter.  During the mid 1990’s, Rodney was just the second native South Carolina artist to win the prestigious South Carolina Duck Stamp Competition.

Early on, Rodney succeeded at every opportunity to prove his artistic skill.  He was South Carolina’s winner…and 4^th nationally…in the Hallmark Art Talent Contest for high school seniors.  Rodney was honored many times during his early years within the state as he won awards for his beautiful paintings.

Huckaby’s later interest in observing and photographing waterfowl in their natural habitat led him to a greater challenge:  entering the Federal and South Carolina Duck Stamp competitions.  Working primarily in acrylics, Rodney created wildlife paintings that gained him much recognition and many awards.  Winning the national art contest for the 15^th Anniversary South Carolina Duck Stamp Design was a humbling experience for the artist.  “I am honored to be the winner of this year’s award.  It has been a longtime goal of mine,”  Huckaby explained. 

Rodney’s latest adventure in the world of art has lead him from nature artwork to creating realistic still lifes of the world of wines.  His compositions of fine wines lit by romantic candlelight evoke special memories of the past.  Rodney captures the detail and color of fine wine bottles in a special atmosphere.
